Privacy Policy
Last updated August 2026.
Polity helps people find their local elected officials and follow local government news and votes. This page explains what information the app collects and how it’s used, in plain language.
What we collect
- Account info. When you sign in, we store your name, email address, and profile image (if your sign-in method provides one), so your votes, comments, and tracked officials/legislation are saved to your account.
- Location, and only if you choose to share it. Typing an address or ZIP code doesn’t require any device permission. If you tap “Use my location” instead, we ask iOS for your device’s location and send those coordinates to our server once, to look up your districts. We don’t store precise location history, only whichever town/county/district it resolved to, same as if you’d typed an address.
- Activity you create. Votes, comments, and the officials or legislation you choose to track, so we can show them back to you and notify you of relevant updates.
What we don’t do
- We don’t sell your data to anyone.
- We don’t run third-party ad trackers or ad networks in the app.
- We don’t share your identity alongside your votes or comments with other users beyond what you post publicly yourself (e.g. a comment you choose to leave under your name).
Where data lives
Account, vote, comment, and tracking data is stored in our own database, used only to run the app itself: showing you your representatives, your feed, and the things you’ve chosen to track.
Your choices
Location sharing is opt-in every time. The app never accesses your location without you tapping “Use my location.” You can delete comments you’ve posted, untrack anything you’re tracking, and request account deletion at any time by contacting us below.
